Bon Foster Kick-Off: ART AIDS AMERICA Chicago

Date:
Time:
5:30 PM - 9:00 PM
Location:
Alphawood Gallery
2401 North Halsted Street
Chicago, IL 60614

With the rights of LGBT people and everyone living with HIV under daily attack, we're reminded of the progress that our community has made - and that we've been here before. In our work to resist the unprecedented attacks on our rights, we draw inspiration from those who have fought for access to healthcare, for justice and for their lives throughout the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Robert Bonvouloir "Bon" Foster was an outspoken and fearless HIV advocate in the early 1990s. Our annual event honors his selfless act to bequeath his estate to found Lambda Legal's Midwest Regional Office.

In Bon's memory, we're proud to partner with the Alphwood Gallery for this evening at their groundbreaking exhibition, ART AIDS AMERICA Chicago. This incredible exhibition underscores the deep and unforgettable presence of HIV in American art. It introduces and explores the whole spectrum of artistic responses to AIDS, from the politically outspoken to the quietly mournful, surveying works from the early 1980s to the present.

We invite you to join us for an evening at the gallery with remarks from Scott Schoettes, Lambda Legal's HIV Project Director. At the gallery, guests can take in the exhibition on their own or select from guided tours highlighting themes of politics, spirituality and art from women. Afterward, we will gather for a reception nearby to reflect and recommit to the work ahead.

Online RVSPs are now closed but we can still Register you at the Gallery!

We're sorry, the deadline for registering for this event has passed.
